Welcome back fly guys and hot chicks, this week we’re coming at you from Southpoint Park in Miami Beach. Visit this park on any given sunrise and you’ll find photographers with brides, bridesmaids, dancers, engaged couples, and pregnant women all looking fly and ready to work. The MyXXFLY crew and models were no different, with the notable exception that we served way harder in half the time.
We met up with resident MyXXFLY babe Ophelia in the wee hours of a Sunday dawn and clowned around to bring you some early morning flyness. Shooting with Ophelia is always a riot, and her amazing energy definitely set the tone for this shoot. Ms. O radiates a quiet confidence that inspires me as a woman and helps calm my nerves as a model. Usually I’m more concerned with directing than posing, a fact that springs from my comfort behind the camera, my insecurity in front of it, and the little known fact that our photographer is something of a novice. This time however, I left our photographer to do his thing uncoached, and I must commend him as this was probably the most technically difficult shoot to date, (two models are much harder to direct than one).
While I’ve felt the lure of other cities and have moved once or twice, living driving distance from the beach is something I would never want to give up, and to this day, I still feel I haven’t exploited the privilege enough. Everyone at Southpoint Park on a Sunday sunrise has a story to tell; wether they woke up there after a wild night, use the spot to get in their daily morning run, or drove over to find a slice of beach to capture on film, the older I get, the more deeply I fall in love with this ocean. A heart-felt congratulations to our model Ophelia and her husband Jordan who celebrated their one year wedding anniversary on this day, and a special shout-out to MyXXFLY’s itty-bitty Jordan O. Behind the scenes, our kiddo carried bags from spot to spot and cleared each shot of errant fallen palm tree fronds when necessary. Jordan O, you’re the real MVP. Next week, we bring you the glamour of Miami Summer, complete with rain, storm clouds, and really excellent Calle Ocho back-lighting. Until then, take a day-trip, let go, and keep it #MyXXFLY.
